The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Athinaikos (#1) and Panathinaikos (#4). Athinaikos (20-0) smashed visiting Panathinaikos (14-6) by 21 points 64-43. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. The game without a history. Athinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Panathinaikos to just 7 points in third quarter. Athinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Panathinaikos' players. International guard Olga Hatzinikolaou (181-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 8 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. The former international guard May Kay Kotsopoulos (178-88, college: Vermont) contributed with 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Diana Delva (188, college: Hartford) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Chelsie Schweers (170, college: Christ.Newport) added 18 points in the effort for Panathinaikos. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Athinaikos have an impressive 19-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 20-0 record. Panathinaikos at the other side keeps the fourth place with six games lost. Athinaikos are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Apollon Ptol. (#12) in Ptolemaida in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Panathinaikos' supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panionios.
