Regular Season Round 17: STU Tbilisi - Olimpi 74-91

Another exciting game was again a derby match of two teams from Tbilisi: Olimpi (#2) and STU (#9). STU was crushed at home by 17 points 74-91 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game without a history. Olimpi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 20 STU turnovers and outrebounded them 51-35 including 23 on the offensive glass. Olimpi players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international forward Mikheil Berishvili (205-87) nailed 14 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Czech center Ivo Hoger (225-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) accounted for 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Olimpi players scored in double figures. Guard George Khaniashvili (194-89) came up with 25 points and forward Zviad Antadze (198-88, college: Monroe Coll.) added 17 points and 4 steals respectively for STU in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Olimpi maintains second place with 12-3 record having just three points less than leader Armia. STU lost their fifth game in a row. STU at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Olimpi's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Energy Invest (#11) in Rustavi and are hoping to win another game. STU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Armia.
