There was no surprise in Katowice where 13th ranked Mickiewicz (6-17) was crushed by second ranked BM Wegiel Stal (17-6) 94-68 on Saturday. The game without a history. BM Wegiel Stal led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game, while Mickiewicz only scored three points from the stripe. BM Wegiel Stal forced 24 Mickiewicz turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when BM Wegiel Stal made 14 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Jakub Dryjanski (201-82) who scored 19 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Marcin Dymala (185-90) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 assists and 4 steals. Five BM Wegiel Stal players scored in double figures. Forward Grzegorz Zadecki (193-83) produced 19 points and 9 rebounds and forward Lukasz Kosmowski (196-83) added 14 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. BM Wegiel Stal maintains second place in Group B with 17-6 record having four points less than leader Open Florentyna. Loser Mickiewicz keeps the thirteenth position with 17 games lost. BM Wegiel Stal will face GTK Gliwice (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Mickiewicz will play against AZS AGH Alstom (#6) in Krakow.
