There was a surprise result in Valladolid where eighteenth ranked Blancos de Rueda (6-17) defeated higher ranked Assignia Manresa (12-12) 79-70 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-19. But Assignia Manresa won second period 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Blancos de Rueda won last quarter 23-15. Blancos de Rueda outrebounded Assignia Manresa 35-23 including 22 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Ricardo Uriz (189-80) who scored 17 points and 9 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Forward Nacho Martin (205-83) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Four Blancos de Rueda players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Justin Doellman (206-85, college: Xavier) who recorded 12 points and guard Javier Rodriguez (189-79, college: Boston Coll.) added 4 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Assignia Manresa's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Blancos de Rueda maintains eighteenth position with 6-17 record. Assignia Manresa at the other side dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. Blancos de Rueda will face higher ranked UCAM Murcia (#17) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
