An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Mikawa. First ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix faced 3rd placed Toyama Grouses. Host Hamamatsu Phoenix (25-13) defeated guests from Toyama (21-16) 77-70. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Toyama Grouses. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-14. But Toyama Grouses won third quarter 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hamamatsu Phoenix forced 21 Toyama Grouses turnovers. Strangely Toyama Grouses outrebounded Hamamatsu Phoenix 49-35 including 16 on the offensive glass. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The game was also dominated by American players. It was an exceptional evening for guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh, agency: VVG Sports) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St., agency: ACMT) accounted for 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Four Hamamatsu Phoenix players scored in double figures. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach Ryuji Kawai used entire bench saving starting five for next games. Forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: SDJ Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds and swingman Brian Harper (206-85, college: Paine, agency: Pro One Sports) added 22 points and 14 rebounds respectively for Toyama Grouses in the defeat. Defending champion maintains first place with 25-13 record, which they share with Kyoto Hannar. Toyama Grouses at the other side dropped to the fourth position with 16 games lost. Hamamatsu Phoenix's next round opponent will be again Toyama Grouses (#4) at home.
