Regular Season Round 17: MIA Academy - Kutaisi 83-85

The most exciting game of round 17 in the Superleague took place in Tbilisi. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked MIA (9-7) to third ranked Kutaisi (12-4) 85-83 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was naturalized Azerbaijani forward Davit Barbakadze (203-82) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Naturalized Russian guard Teymuraz Babunashvili (185-90) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. American forward Tracy Smith (203, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty, agency: Pro One Sports) added 20 points, 7 assists and 5 steals respectively for the hosts. Four MIA players scored in double figures. MIA's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Kutaisi have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 12-4 record having just two points less than leader Armia. MIA at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Kutaisi are looking forward to face Sokhumi (#4) in Tbilisi in the next round. MIA will have a break next round.
