There was an upset when higher ranked Unicaja Malaga (13-11) was defeated at home by seventeenth ranked Asefa Estudiantes (7-16) 74-67 on Sunday. Unicaja Malaga trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 23-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 67-74 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was center German Gabriel (207-80) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Belgian center Yannick Driesen (215-88) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Driesen is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Alejandro Abrines (198-93) who recorded 31 points and Croatian power forward Luka Zoric (211-84) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Unicaja Malaga's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Asefa Estudiantes moved-up to sixteenth place. Unicaja Malaga lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 11 games lost. Asefa Estudiantes will face higher ranked Gescrap BB (#10) in Bilbao in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Unicaja Malaga will play on the road against Caja Laboral (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
