There was no surprise in Osaka where 8th ranked Toshiba Thunders (7-31) were defeated by fourth ranked Panasonic Trians (22-16) 82-78 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 30-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Panasonic Trians shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 66.7 percentage. American forward Ace Custis (202-74, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Higher Vision Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. International point guard Hiroyuki Kinoshita (178-80) chipped in 18 points. The former international swingman Shohei Kikuchi (190-85) produced 13 points and American center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Toshiba Thunders' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Panasonic Trians moved-up to third place, which they share with Hitachi SR. Toshiba Thunders lost third consecutive game. They stay dead last with 31 lost games. Panasonic Trians will face Tochigi Brex (#6) at home in the next round. Toshiba Thunders will play against Hokkaido L. in Saporro.
