Regular Season Round 19: Hitachi SR - Aishin SH 73-91

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Osaka. First ranked Aishin Sea Horses faced 3rd placed Hitachi Sunrockers. Guests from Kariya (28-10) defeated host Hitachi Sunrockers (22-16) 91-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. The game without a history. Aishin Sea Horses led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. It was a great evening for international swingman Takatoshi Furukawa (190-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) helped adding 7 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. At the losing side Swedish forward Christian Maraker (206-82, college: Pacific) responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds and American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 28-10 record. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side keep the third position with 16 games lost. They share it with Panasonic T.. Aishin Sea Horses will meet at home Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against the league's second-placed Toyota Alvark (#2) in Fuchu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
