Leading Napoli (24-6) recorded its sixth loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Mazzeo San Severo (13-16) 82-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Napoli. The game was mostly controlled by Mazzeo San Severo. Napoli managed to win second period 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Mazzeo San Severo won last quarter 25-16. Swingman Ivan Scarponi (196-86) notched 35 points (!!!) (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and forward Francesco Amoroso (202-78) supported him with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds by forward Simone Gatti (202-82) did not help to save the game for Napoli. Naturalized Argentinian guard Bernardo Musso (192-86) added 13 points and 9 assists. Four Napoli players scored in double figures. Mazzeo San Severo maintains fourth position with 13-16 record. Newly promoted Napoli still keeps top place with six games lost. Mazzeo San Severo will meet at home Comsum.it SI (#5) in the next round. Napoli will play against Bari (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
