Very important is a road loss of third ranked Elitzur Yavne (16-6) against fifth ranked Hod Hasharon (12-10) on Tuesday night. Visiting Elitzur Yavne was defeated by Hod Hasharon in a tough game in Hod Hasharon 96-100. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Elitzur Yavne. It looked good early as Elitzur Yavne took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hod Hasharon had a 30-22 second period charge getting the lead and Elitzur Yavne was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 96-100. Hod Hasharon players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Elitzur Yavne was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Anthony Johnson (203-88, college: Fairfield) notched a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 rebounds to lead the effort and Puerto Rican point guard Javier Gonzalez (182-89, college: N.Carolina St.) supported him with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Even 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds by American swingman Brian Laing (195-85, college: Seton Hall, agency: I.D.S. Law) did not help to save the game for Elitzur Yavne. Swingman Elad Hofman (192-85) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Four Elitzur Yavne players scored in double figures. Hod Hasharon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Kiryat Tivon and Ironi Nes-Ziona. Elitzur Yavne at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. Hod Hasharon will play against Elitzur Ramla (#8) on the road in the next round. Elitzur Yavne will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona (#5) in Nes Ziyona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
