There was an upset in Maracaibo where much higher ranked Cocodrilos (16-5) were edged by seventh ranked Gaiteros (8-15) 78-76 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-17. But Cocodrilos won second period 23-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gaiteros held Cocodrilos to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners. American point guard Donald Sims (185-87, college: Appalachian St.) scored 22 points and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and U.S. Virgin Islands swingman Jason Edwin (197-81, college: Kent St.) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side international forward Nestor Colmenares (203-87, college: Campbellsville) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Carl Elliott (193-83, college: G.Washington, agency: SportsTalent) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. Gaiteros maintains seventh position with 8-15 record. Cocodrilos at the other side keep the second place with five games lost. Gaiteros will face again league's second-placed Cocodrilos in Caracas in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Cocodrilos will play on the road against Guaros in Barquisimeto.
