Regular Season Round 20: Valur - KR 72-105
Date: March 16, 2012
Bottom-ranked Valur is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 20th consecutive match to fourth ranked KR (13-7) 105-72. The game without a history. KR led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 40. KR forced 20 Valur turnovers and outrebounded them 45-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. KR brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American power forward Robert Ferguson (203-85, college: St.Joseph's) who scored 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). point guard Martin Hermannsson (180-94) chipped in 10 points and 6 assists. Center Birgir Petursson (205-86) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and Benedikt Blondal (-93) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Stjarnan and Thor Thorl. Newly promoted Valur still closes the standings. KR's next round opponent will be Haukar (#11) in Hafnarfjordur and are hoping to win another game. Valur will play on the road against Thor Thorl in Thorlakshofn and hopes to get finally their first victory.
