CIBACOPA round 5 caused change at the leadership position. First defeat of league's leader Garra Canera de Navolato (4-1) against seventh ranked Mineros de Cananea (2-3) 86-83 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Garra Canera de Navolato. Garra Canera de Navolato was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 19-12 charge of Mineros de Cananea, which allowed them to win the game. Naturalized American guard Franco Harris (183-83, college: Boise St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points. American forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals for the winners. American forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield, agency: Dream Team Management) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds and Dominican-American guard Damien McSwine (193-78, college: Loyola, IL) added 21 points in the effort for Garra Canera de Navolato. Four Garra Canera de Navolato players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Guasave. Garra Canera de Navolato at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Hermosillo. They were replaced at the leadership position by Tijuana. Garra Canera de Navolato will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Mineros de Cananea will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Garra Canera de Navolato at home.
