Eighth-ranked Toshiba Thunders (7-33) used its home court advantage to challenge fifth ranked Hokkaido L. (21-19) in Kanagawa. The visitors from Saporro managed to secure only two-point victory 85-83. However their fans expected easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 31-26. But Toshiba Thunders won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hokkaido L. made 28-of-33 charity shots (84.8 percent) during the game. Hokkaido L. outrebounded Toshiba Thunders 36-23 including 22 on the defensive glass. Toshiba Thunders were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Ryota Sakurai (194-83) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 9 rebounds and Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) who added 11 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. American center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Ryusei Shinoyama (178-88) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Toshiba Thunders' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hokkaido L. have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 21-19 record. Toshiba Thunders lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 33 lost games. Hokkaido L. will play against higher ranked Panasonic Trians (#3) in Osaka in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toshiba Thunders will play on the road against Tochigi Brex (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
