Regular Season Round 18: Armia - STU Tbilisi 95-50

Superleague top team - Armia (16-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked STU (5-11) in Tbilisi 95-50. The game was mostly controlled by Armia. STU managed to win third quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding STU to just 2 points in fourth quarter. Armia dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to STU's 30. Armia forced 30 STU turnovers and outrebounded them 48-34 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by STU's players. American Will Thomas (203-86, agency: Two Points) notched 28 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Puerto Rican Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) supported him with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. Four Armia players scored in double figures. Even 17 points by forward Zviad Antadze (198-88, college: Monroe Coll.) did not help to save the game for STU. Forward Gela Kopaliani (193-90) added 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Armia have an impressive 16-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 16-0 record. STU lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with TSU Tbilisi. Armia will meet bottom-ranked Energy Invest (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. STU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi TSU.
