Regular Season Round 6: Cananea - Navolato 70-66

The most important game in the last round took place in Cananea between third ranked Garra Canera de Navolato (4-2) and sixth ranked Mineros de Cananea (3-3) on Saturday night. Garra Canera de Navolato was defeated by Mineros de Cananea in a tough game on the road 66-70. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Garra Canera de Navolato won third quarter 23-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Mineros de Cananea won last quarter 15-12. American forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized American guard Franco Harris (183-83, college: Boise St.) chipped in 13 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) during the contest. Mineros de Cananea's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield, agency: Dream Team Management) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and Dominican-American guard Damien McSwine (193-78, college: Loyola, IL) scored 23 points. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Los Mochis and Guasave. Garra Canera de Navolato at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Guaymas. Mineros de Cananea is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Garra Canera de Navolato will play against Pioneros Los Mochis (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
