Regular Season Round 21: Asteras - PAOK 69-79

An interesting game took place in Athens where higher ranked Asteras (11-10) was upset on its own court by tenth ranked PAOK (7-14) 79-69. It looked good early as Asteras took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then PAOK had a 31-19 second period charge getting the lead and Asteras was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-79. It was a good game for American guard Quenese Davis (178-88, college: San Diego St.) who led her team to a victory with 25 points and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Forward Maria Avtzi (173) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Shakara Jones (187-88, college: Missouri) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Vassiliki Daskalopoulou (178-84) added 17 points in the effort for Asteras. Four PAOK and five Asteras players scored in double figures. Newly promoted PAOK maintains tenth place with 7-14 record. Asteras lost their third game in a row. Asteras at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. PAOK's next round opponent will be higher ranked Panathinaikos (#3) in Athens and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Asteras will play on the road against Apollon Kal. in Kalamarias.
