Regular Season Round 27: PeKa - HoNsU 83-57

There was no surprise in Kotka where 7th ranked HoNsU (8-19) was crushed by second ranked Peli-Karhut (20-7) 83-57 on Saturday. The game without a history. Peli-Karhut led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Peli-Karhut forced 21 HoNsU turnovers. It was a great evening for American-Puerto Rican forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) who led her team to a victory scoring 18 points and 8 rebounds. American swingman Rashada McCants (185-86, college: N.Carolina, agency: LBM Management) helped adding 18 points and 7 rebounds. Peli-Karhut's coach Seppo Kurki felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Laura Lahtinen (174-86) with 16 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Anni Karkkainen (179-94) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Peli-Karhut. Defending champion maintains second place with 20-7 record having six points less than leader Catz. Loser HoNsU dropped to the sixth position with 19 games lost. They share it with ToPo. Peli-Karhut will meet Espoo Team (#5) on the road in the next round. HoNsU will play against Forssan Alku and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
