Regular Season Round 46: Okinawa GK - Miyazaki SS 76-79

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Okinawa GK (33-9) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by seventh ranked Miyazaki Shining Suns (19-23) 79-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Okinawa GK. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Okinawa GK won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Okinawa GK outrebounded Miyazaki Shining Suns 50-37 including 39 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Dexter Lyons (198-81, college: Cent.Florida, agency: I.D.S. Law) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Taishiro Shimizu (183-81) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Miyazaki Shining Suns players scored in double figures. American center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) replied with 9 points and 16 rebounds and guard Narito Namizato (175-89) added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Okinawa GK. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Miyazaki Shining Suns maintains seventh position with 19-23 record. Okinawa GK at the other side still keeps top place with nine games lost. Miyazaki Shining Suns will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Okinawa GK will play at home against the league's second-placed Osaka Evessa having rather not much hope for a victory.
