Regular Season Round 20: Toyota Alvark - Hitachi SR 63-61

Fourth-ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (22-18) were very close to win a game against second ranked Toyota Alvark (28-12) in Fuchu on Sunday. Toyota Alvark managed to secure only two-point victory 63-61. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 17-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Toyota Alvark made 8 blocks. American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). International power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (206-85) contributed with 5 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Toyota Alvark's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swedish forward Christian Maraker (206-82, college: Pacific) replied with 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Daisuke Kobayashi (188-87) added 20 points in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. They keep the fourth place with 18 games lost. Toyota Alvark are looking forward to face league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
