Regular Season Round 29: Leiden - M.Magixx 85-73

Date: March 21, 2012
Not a big story in a game when 4th placed Nijmegen (16-10) lost on the road to second ranked Leiden (20-6) 85-73 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Leiden. Nijmegen was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Nijmegen 44-33 including 29 on the defensive glass. Nijmegen was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Canadian forward Jevohn Shepherd (196-86, college: Michigan) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Seamus Boxley (201-82, college: Portland St.) contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Leiden's coach Toon Van Helfteren allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Canadian forward Ross Bekkering (203-85, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) answered with 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American forward Markel Humphrey (198-87, college: Marshall) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Nijmegen. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Leiden have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 20-6 record having just -1 point less than leader Groningen. Nijmegen at the other side keeps the fourth position with ten games lost. Leiden will face Leeuwarden (#6) at home in the next round.
