Fifth-ranked Guaiqueries (14-12) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Marinos (21-5) in Porlamar on Wednesday. The visitors from Puerto La Cruz managed to secure only two-point victory 89-87. However their fans expected much easier game. Guaiqueries trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 26-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 87-89 at the end of the game. Marinos held Guaiqueries to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. American forward Leon Rodgers (199-80, college: N.Illinois) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Marinos players scored in double figures. American guard Darius Adams (182-89, college: Indianapolis, agency: Warren Sports International) answered with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals and the former international center Richard Lugo (209-73, college: St.Francis, NY) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Guaiqueries. Guaiqueries' coach Carlos Mercado rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Marinos maintains first place with 21-5 record.
