Korisliiga top team - Joensuun Kataja (29-8) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat fifth ranked Torpan Pojat (20-16) in Helsinki 96-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Torpan Pojat. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. Torpan Pojat was better in second period 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joensuun Kataja made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Joensuun Kataja outrebounded Torpan Pojat 37-24 including a 27-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international power forward Sami Lehtoranta (205-79) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Pro One Sports) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Even 26 points by American forward Justin Hawkins (201-85, college: N.Mexico St.) did not help to save the game for Torpan Pojat. Forward Carl Lindbom (204-91) added 16 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja have a solid three-game winning streak. Joensuun Kataja maintains first position with 29-8 record. Torpan Pojat at the other side keeps the fifth place with 16 games lost. Joensuun Kataja will play against league's second-placed Tampereen Pyrinto at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Torpan Pojat will play against LrNMKY in Lappeenranta and hopes to get back on the winning track.
