Rather expected game when 10th ranked Toros (4-22) lost to seventh ranked Gaiteros (10-18) in Maracay 96-103 on Thursday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-17. But Toros won second period 25-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gaiteros held Toros to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American point guard Donald Sims (185-87, college: Appalachian St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 assists for the winning side and U.S. Virgin Islands swingman Jason Edwin (197-81, college: Kent St.) accounted for 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Four Gaiteros players scored in double figures. American forward Delonte Holland (201-82, college: De Paul) came up with 27 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Jesus Urbina (201-84, college: George Mason) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Toros in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gaiteros maintains seventh place with 10-18 record. Toros lost third consecutive game. They stay dead last with 22 lost games. Gaiteros will meet at home Guaros (#8) in the next round. Toros will play against Bucaneros in La Guaira and hope to secure a win.
