Regular Season Round 31: San Severo - Recanati 71-94

Rather expected game when 4th placed Mazzeo San Severo (14-17) was smashed at home by second ranked Recanati (16-14) 94-71 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Recanati. Mazzeo San Severo was better in second period 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Recanati shot 65.5 percent from the field. They also forced 23 Mazzeo San Severo turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Recanati especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. It was a very good performance for guard Marco Evangelisti (198-84) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 4 assists. Center Paolo Chiarello (204-78) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Recanati's coach Piero Coen felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Swingman Giovanni Rugolo (196-81) answered with 21 points and 4 assists and center Fulvio Candido (208-83) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Mazzeo San Severo. Four Mazzeo San Severo players scored in double figures. Recanati maintains second place with 16-14 record having six points less than leader Omegna. Loser Mazzeo San Severo keeps the fourth position with 17 games lost. Recanati will face Castelletto (#6) on the road in the next round. Mazzeo San Severo will play against the league's leader Omegna and be promoted back to the Lega2 just one year after relegation.
