Regular Season Round 47: Sendai 89ers - Shinshu BW 96-78

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked Shinshu BW's (15-26) road loss to sixth ranked Sendai 89ers (21-20) 78-96 on Saturday. Sendai 89ers dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Shinshu BW's 40. Sendai 89ers forced 27 Shinshu BW turnovers and outrebounded them 38-27 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shinshu BW was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Guard Takehiko Shimura (160-83) helped adding 16 points and 4 assists. Sendai 89ers' coach Robert Pierce used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Lee Roberts (201-87, college: Findlay, OH) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toyama Grouses. Shinshu BW lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 26 games lost. Sendai 89ers will face again Shinshu BW (#7) in Nagano in the next round.
