Regular Season Round 25: Real Canoe - Orion-GDKO 83-67

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Orion-GDKO (8-14) lost to third ranked Real Canoe (17-6) in Madrid 67-83 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Real Canoe. Orion-GDKO was better in fourth quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Orion-GDKO 43-17 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Real Canoe especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. It was a very good performance for American forward Kate Mills (185-86, college: Massachusetts) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 assists. Forward Eva Lozano (180-83, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Real Canoe's coach Pablo Roldan used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian power forward Erica Sanchez (184-76, agency: Players Group) answered with 28 points and 5 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American swingman Katie Gearlds (186-84, college: Purdue) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Orion-GDKO. Real Canoe maintains third place in Group B with 17-6 record having just three points less than leader Pais Vasco, which they share with Casablanca. Orion-GDKO lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Real Canoe will face Segle XXI (#14) in Barcelona in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Orion-GDKO will play at home against Casablanca in Zaragoza.
