Second Stage Round 5: Sozh Gomel - Victoria 62-74

An exciting game was played in Gomel. Second ranked Victoria-UOR faced 3rd placed Sozh Gomel. Guests from Grodno (3-2) defeated host Sozh Gomel (1-5) 74-62. It looked good early as Sozh Gomel took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Victoria-UOR had a 20-7 second period charge getting the lead and Sozh Gomel was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-74. Victoria-UOR dominated on the defensive end, holding Sozh Gomel to just 7 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Sozh Gomel's 18. Victoria-UOR forced 32 Sozh Gomel turnovers. Forward Natallia Pratskaila (181-94) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Alena Holubeva (176-94) accounted for 15 points and 6 rebounds. Victoria-UOR's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Veronika Sovtsa (183-83) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and forward Elena Gorelikova (178-92) added 17 points respectively for Sozh Gomel in the defeat. Victoria-UOR maintains second place in League with 3-2 record having just three points less than leader Olimpia. Sozh Gomel at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Victoria-UOR's next round opponent will be league's leader BrGU COR Victoria in Brest and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sozh Gomel will play on the road against the league's leader BrGU COR Victoria in Brest and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
