Regular Season Round 25: Blaze - Breakers 94-71

Top ranked New Zealand Breakers (21-7) recorded its seventh loss in Broadbeach on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by third ranked Gold Coast Blaze (17-11) 94-71. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. The game was mostly controlled by Gold Coast Blaze. New Zealand Breakers managed to win third quarter 22-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gold Coast Blaze forced 19 New Zealand Breakers turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) fired 20 points for the winners. The former international forward Mark Worthington (202-83, college: Metro St.) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Gold Coast Blaze's coach Joey Wright felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Zealand center Alex Pledger (213-87, college: Belm.Abbey) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and New Zealand swingman Leon Henry (200-85, college: S.Idaho JC) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Gold Coast Blaze maintains third place with 17-11 record having four points less than leader Breakers. New Zealand Breakers at the other side still keep top position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
