Regular Season Round 26: Lagun Aro GBC - Real Madrid 98-90

Date: March 25, 2012
There was a small surprise in San Sebastian where fifth ranked Lagun Aro GBC (15-11) defeated second-ranked Real Madrid (20-6) 98-90 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-15. But Real Madrid won second period 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international swingman Sergi Vidal (198-81) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Javier Salgado (180-80) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. The former international guard Sergio Rodriguez (191-86) responded with 16 points and international point guard Sergio Llull (190-87) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Real Madrid's coach Pablo Laso rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Lagun Aro GBC moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Valencia. Real Madrid at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. Lagun Aro GBC will face Assignia Manresa (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Real Madrid will play against Unicaja Malaga (#6).
