Regular Season Round 48: Sendai 89ers - Shinshu BW 66-56

Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Sendai 89ers (22-20) beat at home 7th ranked Shinshu BW (15-27) 66-56. The game was mostly controlled by Sendai 89ers. Shinshu BW was better in second period 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sendai 89ers forced 20 Shinshu BW turnovers. American players dominated also this game. The winners were led by forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) supported him with 18 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Fitzgerald is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers' coach Robert Pierce allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds by forward Tyler Hughes (213-84, college: Kansas St.) did not help to save the game for Shinshu BW. Power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Sendai 89ers have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toyama Grouses. Shinshu BW lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 27 games lost. Sendai 89ers' next round opponent will be Saitama Broncos (#10) on the road where they are favorite.
