Regular Season Round 12: Cananea - Guasave 81-88

Date: March 28, 2012
Mineros de Cananea (#5) was upset in Cananea by eighth ranked Frayles de Guasave 88-81. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mineros de Cananea. The guests were ahead by 3 points but lost the second period ending it with a 5-point deficit before their 27-15 run, which allowed them to win the game. The winners were led by guard Victor Buelna (192-78) who scored that evening 29 points and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and American forward Charles Moore (201-86, college: S.Arkansas) supported him with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Moore is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by American forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) did not help to save the game for Mineros de Cananea. Naturalized American guard Franco Harris (183-83, college: Boise St.) added 19 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Frayles de Guasave (5-7) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Los Mochis. Defending champion Mineros de Cananea keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Navolato. Frayles de Guasave will play against Caballeros de Culiacan (#9) at home in the next round. Mineros de Cananea will play against Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
