Regular Season Round 30: Mallorca - Melilla 86-88

A very close game took place in Mallorca between Melilla Baloncesto and Basquet Mallorca. Seventh ranked Melilla Baloncesto (17-12) got a very close victory on the road over 14th ranked Basquet Mallorca (13-17). Melilla Baloncesto managed to escape with a 2-point win 88-86 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 2 points. Melilla Baloncesto shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Melilla Baloncesto looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Jose Salvador Arco (194-85) who scored 27 points and 4 assists. Nigerian power forward Chukwudinma Odiakosa (203-85, college: Illinois St., agency: N.E.T.) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Joan Carles Bivia (185-85) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 assists and American-German guard Cody Toppert (193-83, college: Cornell) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Basquet Mallorca players scored in double figures. Melilla Baloncesto maintains seventh position with 17-12 record. Newly promoted Basquet Mallorca keeps the fourteenth place with 17 games lost. Melilla Baloncesto will meet at home higher ranked UB La Palma (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Basquet Mallorca will play against CB Clavijo (#9) in Logrono and hope to secure a win.
