Regular Season Round 20: Kutaisi - STU Tbilisi 81-54
Date: March 30, 2012
Very expected game when 9th ranked STU (5-13) was crushed on the road by third ranked Kutaisi (15-4) 81-54. The game without a history. Kutaisi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding STU to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Kutaisi forced 27 STU turnovers. Guard Levan Tsekvava (190-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Forward Giorgi Barbakadze (203-91) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Forward Zviad Antadze (198-88, college: Monroe Coll.) replied with 14 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Giorgi Tetelashvili (192-92) added 17 points and 4 assists in the effort for STU. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Kutaisi have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 15-4 record having just two points less than leader Armia. STU lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 13 games lost. Kutaisi will have a break next round. STU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Dinamo Tbilisi.
