A very close game took place in Guasave between Frayles de Guasave and Caballeros de Culiacan. Eighth ranked Frayles de Guasave (6-7) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (4-9). Frayles de Guasave managed to escape with a 3-point win 81-78 on Friday evening. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Frayles de Guasave looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Russell Carter (196-85, college: Notre Dame) stepped up and scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and the former international swingman Alonso Izaguirre (200-76) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Four Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Rob Robinson (203-87, college: Robert Morris, agency: SDJ Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and guard Luis Pulido (188-85, college: Cal Poly Pomona) scored 4 points and 7 rebounds. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Frayles de Guasave moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Cananea and Navolato. Loser Caballeros de Culiacan keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Frayles de Guasave will again meet at home Caballeros de Culiacan (#9) in the next round. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round.
