The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Mineros de Cananea's (6-7) road loss to fourth ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (8-5) 90-96 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mineros de Cananea won third quarter 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Fuerza Guinda Nogales won last quarter 26-21. They made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. American swingman O'Louis McCullough (198-82, college: Francis Marion) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international forward Michael Strobbe (201-85) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized American guard Franco Harris (183-83, college: Boise St.) scored 14 points and 8 assists. Four Fuerza Guinda Nogales and five Mineros de Cananea players scored in double figures. Fuerza Guinda Nogales have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 8-5 record. Defending champion Mineros de Cananea keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Guasave and Navolato. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will again meet at home Mineros de Cananea (#6) in the next round. Mineros de Cananea will have a break next round.
