Regular Season Round 14: Guasave - Culiacan 92-97

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Frayles de Guasave (6-8) lost at home to ninth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (5-9) 97-92. It looked good early as Frayles de Guasave took an 9-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Caballeros de Culiacan had a 38-24 second period charge getting the lead and Frayles de Guasave was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 92-97. Caballeros de Culiacan players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Frayles de Guasave's players. American forward Rob Robinson (203-87, college: Robert Morris, agency: SDJ Sports) scored 35 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Raul Navarro (192-84) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists during the contest. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Jonathan Meza allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Russell Carter (196-85, college: Notre Dame) responded with 18 points and 6 rebounds and the former international swingman Alonso Izaguirre (200-76) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Four Caballeros de Culiacan and five Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Los Mochis. Frayles de Guasave at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Cananea and Navolato. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against bottom-ranked Coras de Tepic (#10) at home in the next round. Frayles de Guasave will play against the league's second-placed Rayos de Hermosillo (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
