LF2 top team - Pais Vasco (20-5) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat tenth ranked Gernika (9-14) in San Sebastian 68-56. The game was mostly controlled by Pais Vasco. Gernika was better in third quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Point guard Maria Gomez (170-82) notched 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and forward Iulene Olaberria (178-85) supported her with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Even 24 points and 7 rebounds by American forward Tynikki Crook (185-89, college: Marshall) did not help to save the game for Gernika. Her fellow American import guard Alysha Harvin (178-88, college: Florida St.) added 13 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pais Vasco maintains first position in Group B with 20-5 record, which they share with Conquero. Newly promoted Gernika keeps the tenth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Orion-GDKO. Pais Vasco will play against Cravic Reus (#13) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gernika will play against Orion-GDKO in Galdakao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
