Regular Season Round 23: Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi Ashdod 99-100

Eleventh-ranked Maccabi Haifa (3-18) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-10) on Sunday. The visitors from Ashdod managed to secure only one-point victory 100-99. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 28-22 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Maccabi Ashdod made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Maccabi Ashdod outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 35-23 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for American swingman Josh Carter (201-88, college: Texas A&M) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points. The former international point guard Dror Hagag (178-78) helped adding 21 points and 5 assists. American forward Carlos Powell (199-83, college: S.Carolina) responded with 23 points and 7 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Tyler Wilkerson (202-88, college: Marshall) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Rami Hadar rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi Ashdod moved-up to sixth place. Maccabi Haifa lost fifteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Maccabi Haifa will play against Elitzur Netanya (#8) and hope to secure a win.
