Regular Season Round 24: Ragusa - Viterbo 78-45
Date: April 1, 2012
A2 top team - Ragusa (20-4) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed thirteenth ranked Viterbo (5-18) 78-45. The game was mostly controlled by Ragusa. Viterbo managed to win second period 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Viterbo to just 6 points in first quarter. Ragusa forced 20 Viterbo turnovers and outrebounded them 46-34 including 37 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Mozambican center Clarisse Machanguana (194-73, college: ODU, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and guard Maria Buzzanca (171-76) supported her with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Ragusa's coach Marco Savini felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 12 points and 7 rebounds by Bulgarian forward Roksana Yordanova (184-84) did not help to save the game for Viterbo. Forward Anna Romagnoli (175-92) added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Ragusa maintains first position in South with 20-4 record. Viterbo lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 18 games lost. Ragusa will meet S.E.Battipaglia (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Viterbo will play against Ancona (#7) and hope to secure a win.
