Lottomatica Roma (12-14) escaped against Benetton Treviso (11-14) in overtime by three points 102-99 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Benetton Treviso. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-15. But Benetton Treviso won second period 15-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Benetton Treviso used huge pressure winning it 25-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 16-19. Lottomatica Roma made 33-of-36 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game, while Benetton Treviso only scored sixteen points from the stripe. It was a great evening for international swingman Luigi Datome (202-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 8 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). American forward Jarvis Varnado (206-88, college: Mississippi St.) helped adding 20 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Marcus Goree (201-77, college: W.Virginia) with 25 points and 5 rebounds and Austrian power forward Benjamin Ortner (206-83, college: Metro St.) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Lottomatica Roma and four Benetton Treviso players scored in double figures. Benetton Treviso's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lottomatica Roma moved-up to tenth place. Loser Benetton Treviso dropped to the eleventh position with 14 games lost. They share it with Fabi Shoes. Lottomatica Roma will meet higher ranked Air Avellino (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Benetton Treviso will play against Novipiu CM in Casale and hope to secure a win.
