Regular Season Round 50: Fukuoka Rizing - Niigata Albirex 73-72
Date: April 2, 2012
Third-ranked Niigata Albirex (24-20) was very close to win a game against fifth ranked Fukuoka Rizing (28-16) on Monday. Fukuoka Rizing managed to secure only one-point victory 73-72. However their fans expected easier game. Niigata Albirex trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 20-10 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-73 at the end of the game. Strangely Niigata Albirex outrebounded Fukuoka Rizing 52-35 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. American swingman Kevin Palmer (198-87, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: VVG Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import swingman Carlos Dixon (201-81, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Top Notch Sports) supported him with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 15 points and 19 rebounds by American power forward Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) did not help to save the game for Niigata Albirex. Bahamas forward Bennet Davis (206-84, college: Northeastern, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 12 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Niigata Albirex's coach Matt Garrison tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Fukuoka Rizing moved-up to third place, which they share with Shiga L-Stars and Kyoto Hannar. Loser Niigata Albirex keeps the third position with 20 games lost. Fukuoka Rizing will meet Shiga L-Stars (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Niigata Albirex will play against the league's second-placed Osaka Evessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
