Regular Season Round 15: Tijuana - Guaymas 85-79

There was a change at the CIBACOPA leadership position after last games. Round 15 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Ostioneros de Guaymas (11-4). They were defeated by third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (11-3) 85-79 on Tuesday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ostioneros de Guaymas. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 49-40 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for American power forward Cyrus Tate (203-85, college: Iowa, agency: Edge Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) helped adding 14 points and 6 rebounds. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach Luis Lopez used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) with 15 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Hector Nungaray (178-78) scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Hermosillo. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play next round against Coras de Tepic trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
