Regular Season Round 16: Culiacan - Tepic 81-65

Bottom-ranked Coras de Tepic (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-65 loss to sixth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (7-9) in Culiacan on Wednesday evening. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they stormed back winning two of next three quarters and won the game by 16 points. Caballeros de Culiacan dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Coras de Tepic's 38. Caballeros de Culiacan forced 23 Coras de Tepic turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Rob Robinson (203-87, college: Robert Morris, agency: SDJ Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds and Ricardo Lopez who added 13 points during the contest. Five Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Jonathan Meza used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American swingman Mychal Henderson (198-85, college: Ks Wesleyan) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import center Deangelo Riley (205, college: Azusa Pacific) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. Caballeros de Culiacan have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Guasave and Cananea. Loser Coras de Tepic still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will meet higher ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Coras de Tepic will have a break next round.
