Round 16 in CIBACOPA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Guasave where host Frayles de Guasave (7-9) beat league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo (12-4) 90-86 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Frayles de Guasave made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Frayles de Guasave made 7 blocks. American forward Sylvester Spicer (198-86, college: Rogers St.) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Alonso Izaguirre (200-76) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Jesus Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Sam Coleman (208-87, college: Coppin St.) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Frayles de Guasave and four Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Frayles de Guasave moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Cananea and Culiacan. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Guaymas who have the same record. Rayos de Hermosillo will play next round against Garra Canera de Navolato trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Frayles de Guasave will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas at home.
