Regular Season Round 21: Olimpi - Samedicino 96-76

Another exciting game was again a derby match of two local teams from Tbilisi: Olimpi (#2) and Samedicino-Academia (#7). Olimpi (16-3) crushed visiting Samedicino-Academia (7-13) by 20 points 96-76. The game was mostly controlled by Olimpi. Samedicino-Academia managed to win second period 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Olimpi dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Samedicino-Academia's 44. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Samedicino-Academia's players. International guard Georgi Tsintsadze (192-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and the former international guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-86, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. The best for the losing side was power forward Akaki Dvalishvili (206-90) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Mikheil Chochua (193-87) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Olimpi. Newly promoted Olimpi maintains second place with 16-3 record having just three points less than leader Armia. Samedicino-Academia lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with 13 games lost. Olimpi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Armia.
