Second Stage Round 8: Kotwica - AZS PW 87-85

Seventh-ranked AZS Politechnika Warszawska (10-25) gave a tough game to third ranked Kotwica (18-18) in Kolobrzeg. Kotwica managed to secure only two-point victory 87-85. However their fans expected much easier game. AZS Politechnika Warszawska was ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 21-14 charge of Kotwica, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great shooting night for Kotwica especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. The winners were led by American forward Demetrius Brown (201-83, college: San Jose St.) who scored that evening 26 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and forward Lukasz Wichniarz (197-82) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 15 points and 10 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) by point guard Lukasz Wilczek (189-86) did not help to save the game for AZS Politechnika Warszawska. Forward Michal Nowakowski (202-88) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. AZS Politechnika Warszawska's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kotwica maintains third position in Group B with 18-18 record having five points less than leader Slask Wroclaw. AZS Politechnika Warszawska lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh place with 25 games lost. Kotwica will play against league's second-placed AZS Koszalin on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AZS Politechnika Warszawska will play against Polpharma (#5) in Starogard and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
