Second Stage Round 8: PBG Basket - AZS Koszalin 65-73
Date: April 7, 2012
Rather predictable result in Poznan where second ranked AZS Koszalin (20-16) defeated 6th ranked PBG Basket (11-25) 73-65 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-13. But PBG Basket won second period 21-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AZS Koszalin looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard J.J. Montgomery (196-82, college: Arkansas St.) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and naturalized Canadian forward Greg Surmacz (203-86, agency: Interperformances) who added 16 points during the contest. Four AZS Koszalin players scored in double figures. Naturalized Belgian center Aleksander Lichodzijewski (202-84) responded with 23 points and 6 rebounds and forward Mateusz Bartosz (203-87) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. AZS Koszalin have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position in Group B with 20-16 record having just three points less than leader Slask Wroclaw. Loser PBG Basket keeps the sixth place with 25 games lost. AZS Koszalin will face Kotwica (#3) in Kolobrzeg in the next round, which may be the game of the day. PBG Basket will play at home against LKS Sphinx in Lodz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
