Regular Season Round 28: Cantu - Novipiu Casale 70-55
Date: April 8, 2012
Very predictable result when second ranked Bennet Cantu (17-9) won against at home bottom-ranked Novipiu CM (6-20) 70-55. It looked good early as Novipiu CM took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Bennet Cantu had a 19-15 second period charge getting the lead and Novipiu CM was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 55-70. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Maarten Leunen (206-85, college: Oregon) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds and American-Swiss power forward Greg Brunner (201-83, college: Iowa) who added 6 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American swingman Ricky Minard (196-82, college: Morehead St.) responded with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import guard Matt Janning (193-88, college: Northeastern, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) scored 9 points and 4 assists. Novipiu CM's coach Andrea Valentini rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Bennet Cantu maintains second position with 17-9 record behind leader Montepaschi. Novipiu CM lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with 20 games lost. Bennet Cantu will play against league's leader Montepaschi Siena at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Novipiu CM will play against the league's leader Montepaschi Siena (#1) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
